As part of the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, schools are required to readmit students who left in order to join the military. The student must be readmitted in the same academic status. 

Requires disclosures for loans and credit plans, but exempts Perkins Loans and Federal Family Education Loans.

An obligation or liability bearing interest at a rate in excess of 6 percent per year that is incurred by a servicemember, or the servicemember and the servicemembers's spouse jointly, before the servicemember enters military service shall not bear interest at a rate of excess of 6 percent during the period of military service.

Accountability and reporting requirements for institutions participating in financial aid programs for students

This bill creates a new veterans education benefit for those persons on active duty on or after Sept. 11, 2001. 

Any institution participating in a Title IV federal student financial aid program that maintains on campus housing facilities must establish a missing student notification policy and related procedures for those students who live in on campus housing and who have been missing for 24 hours.

The 1976 amendments require the university to give all students and prospective students information about the academic program and standards that must be met, as well as accreditation information. Costs and refund policies must be listed. Detailed information about financial aid must be provided, including information on how to contact the university's financial aid officer.

This law regulates the disclosure of non-public personal information by financial institutions. Specifically, the law protects consumers or customers who are "individuals obtaining financial products or services to be used primarily for personal, family or other household purposes."
